BASC, represented by Fermin Cuza, International President of the World BASC Organization, participated in meetings of various working groups at the World Customs Organization (WCO) in Brussels, Belgium, from October 16-23, 2017. These working groups addressed important topics related to trade facilitation and border security and included follow-up to previous working group meetings issues.
The WBO signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the WCO in 2007, in which both organizations voluntarily committed to cooperate in different areas, such as the promotion of the Safe Framework of Standards (SAFE) and the Authorized Economic Operator (AEO).
WBO, has participated in various committees and working groups over the past ten years and currently enjoys permanent observer status at the WCO meetings.
During the sessions, different topics were discussed, such as E-commerce challenges that face business and customs, integrated supply chain management, the future of customs, single window cooperation between border control agencies, and draft proposals to update the SAFE framework of standards. Other important issues discussed by the working groups included follow up on the Trade Facilitation Agreement (TFA) and progress with the Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) and its relationship with the TFA.
