World BASC Organization (WBO) is pleased to announce the official issuance of the first BASC Multinational Certification to CMA CGM, one of the world’s largest and most recognized maritime and logistics groups. The ceremony took place on December 2 at the CMA CGM Caribbean offices in Miami, with the presence of WBO’s Board of Directors, executive leadership, and representatives of CMA CGM.

A program designed for global companies

The BASC Multinational Certification is a new membership modality offered by WBO, an innovative mechanism supported by its own regulatory framework that allows corporations with international operations to adopt a unified, harmonized, and verifiable management model within the BASC Security and Control Management System (SGCS BASC).

This model responds to the growing need among companies operating in multiple countries to consolidate their security standards under a single framework.

In this context, CMA CGM becomes the first company in BASC’s history to be certified under this scheme, certifying its operations in 23 countries across the Americas and the Caribbean.

CMA CGM: a global shipping company committed to security

The French-based CMA CGM Group currently ranks third among the world’s largest shipping companies and leads a logistics network spanning more than 160 countries, with a fleet of more than 620 vessels.

Its commitment to security, innovation, and sustainability makes the company a benchmark in the maritime-port industry.

The decision to adopt the BASC model under a multinational scheme reflects CMA CGM’s confidence in the management system promoted by WBO and demonstrates its commitment to the highest international standards of integrity, traceability, and resilience within the supply chain.

An innovative multinational audit process

WBO successfully advanced the Multinational Certification project, establishing relationships with several companies of significant international presence. Over the last three years, this effort involved multiple coordination meetings, proposal presentations, and the preparation of required documentation—work that quickly gained solid traction in the key countries participating in this scheme.

A hybrid audit model, which combined on-site and remote audits, was implemented and adapted to CMA CGM’s operational structure in the region. This process included the company’s operational clusters across the hemisphere and engaged auditors specialized in the maritime and shipping sector, ensuring a high-level technical evaluation.

Additionally, the process incorporated training courses in both Spanish and English based on the BASC International Standards, designed specifically for CMA CGM delegates in various countries.

The result is a regionwide certified system, the first of its kind within the BASC community, aligned with the best international practices in supply chain security.

A decisive step toward the future of the BASC model

“For World BASC Organization, this achievement represents the consolidation of several years of institutional work and opens new opportunities for companies with regional operations seeking a comprehensive security standard,” stated Erik Moncayo, WBO International President, during the ceremony.

The success of this process encourages WBO to extend the BASC Multinational Certification to new companies, sectors, and countries across the Americas, strengthening BASC’s role as a strategic partner in building safer, more reliable, and more competitive supply chains.

During the ceremony, Jean Yves Duval, Head of the LATAM & Caribbean Regional Office at CMA CGM, expressed CMA CGM’s satisfaction in working with BASC and its interest in further strengthening this alliance, as well as expanding the reach of the certification beyond the Americas and the Caribbean.

He highlighted that, thanks to the positive results of the process and the added value offered by the SGCS BASC in terms of security, efficiency, and reliability, the company is interested in implementing the model in other regions where the group operates.

Invitation to the 12th BASC World Congress – 30th Anniversary

During the ceremony, WBO extended a special invitation to CMA CGM to participate in the 12th BASC World Congress, to be held on September 1–2, 2026, in Miami, Florida, on the occasion of BASC’s 30th anniversary. CMA CGM is expected to share its experience as the pioneering company in implementing the BASC Multinational Certification model.

Toward the expansion of the multinational model in the Americas

The CMA CGM case demonstrates the capacity of the SGCS BASC to adapt to large-scale corporate structures and marks a new stage for the Organization. WBO envisions expanding and consolidating the project into more countries and new regions, strengthening a regional vision of collaborative security and reinforcing BASC’s commitment to excellence, integrity, and trust in international trade.
