The U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and World BASC Organization (WBO) have been working closely since the Business Alliance for Secure Commerce- BASC, was created by CBP over 22 years ago in a joint effort to promote supply chain security and a secure international trade.
As part of a joint statement signed in 2012, the two organizations held meetings on January 22 in Washington D.C, BASC was represented by Mr. Alvaro Alpizar; Vice-president of the Board of Directors of WBO, Mr. Fermin Cuza, International President and Mr. Manuel Echeverria, Executive Director.
As part of the agenda, the BASC delegation met with Mr. Thomas Overacker; Executive Director - Cargo and Conveyance Security, Field Operations Office; Mr. Manny Garza, CTPAT Program Director, and Carlos Ochoa, Supervisor, CTPAT office.
One of the most important efforts will continue to focus on mutual support in training, information Exchange and experiences. In this regard, the International President of WBO, stated that ¨this new chapter in our relationship with CBP, requires BASC's commitment and approach in order to strengthen its philosophy and the opportunities to offer benefits, increasing the added value of the relationship with CBP to our BASC companies. ¨- said Fermin Cuza.
In addition, the BASC delegation held meetings with other organizations in Washington, D.C. including the Organization of American States (OAS), The United States Council for International Business (USCIB), Dun & Bradstreet and The Center for International Private Enterprise (CIPE), with the aim of strengthening relations between BASC and these international agencies and experts in international trade.
